About FörTur - the association for Swedish tourism

The trade organisation FörTur was established in September 1995. The intention, underlying the establishment of the organisation, was to achieve coordination of efforts in order to develop tourism in Sweden.

"A strong and solid pressure group is needed so that the Swedish tourist industry can mobilise sufficient force and achieve results."

The purpose of FörTur is to

  • encourage a positive development of tourism in Sweden
  • develop good relationships with authorities, industry, other organisations and the media
  • encourage a sound ethical climate and healthy competitiveness
  • act as a watchdog on commercial issues of all kinds
  • promote market-oriented product development
  • promote increased accessibility of tourist products in Sweden
  • follow developments and trends within the field of tourism
  • initiate, stimulate and communicate, in collaboration with industry, other trade associations, universities and colleges - the development of knowledge, know-how and competence

FörTur has been authorising tourist agencies in Sweden since 1996. The authorisation aims to guarantee a level of quality and service which means that consumers can turn with confidence to tourist information offices for advice and assistance. It is important for Swedish tourist industry to make sure that tourists visiting the country are well looked after.

Sweden have two different categories of tourist information offices namnly

The blue and yellow logo supplies information about local, regional and national tourist attractions. The tourist office also books accommodation and accepts all major credit cards.

The green logo supplies information about the local tourist attractions. The tourist office also has information about accommodation.
